FAQ
Dutch Shepherd questions, answered
Brief answers to what searchers ask most often.
The breed
What does a Dutch Shepherd look like?
A medium-sized shepherd with a brindle coat, in short, long or rough varieties, and a preferred black mask.
How big is it?
The UKC standard gives males 22.5 to 24.5 inches and females 21.5 to 23.5 inches.
Is it related to the Malinois?
They are separate breeds with similar work roles. The comparison page explains why brindle was fixed as the only pattern.
Searching and buying
Why is the search slow?
Few dogs are registered, so sources are scarce.
What should I ask first?
Registration papers, health test results for both parents and the working history of the lines.
Should I pay a deposit early?
Be cautious. Ask for the terms in writing and, where possible, meet the dog first.
